What is Futsal?
Futsal comes from Spanish fútbol sala or fútbol de salon and the term commonly translates as “indoor football.”
How is it Played?
Futsal is played with two teams consisting of five players each, including a goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted and unlike some other forms of soccer, the game is played on a hard-court surface delimited by lines. Walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball, due to the surface played on, that has less bounce than a regular soccer ball requiring players to possess more strength in their ball handling skills.
How does Futsal develop skills for Soccer?
The surface, ball, and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, purposeful movement, creativity, quickness, decision making, technical abilities, as well as ball control and speed of play in small spaces. SAFC will also train on other of surfaces (sand, turf) to help players master skills essential to the game of soccer.
