2018 Malibu Half Marathon & 5K Training Program

Sports Academy running coaches will be providing a comprehensive training program in preparation for the Malibu Half Marathon & 5K on November 4, 2018. The Training Program will focus on proper running progression, running form, and injury prevention by taking your through a planned gradual training plan.Runners will participate in our SA RUN CLUB sessions which includes a weekly running schedule, three group running sessions per week, and a fun group of dedicated coaches and teammates!Saturday group runs will be on local trails as well as on the Malibu Half course.


8 Week Program: September 10th - November 3rd, 2018 (Recommended for Half Marathoners)
4 Week Program: October 8th - November 3rd, 2018 (Recommended for Half Marathoners)

Training Schedule:

Monday @ Sports Academy
6:00am, 9:00am or 6:00pm

Athletes will complete a strength conditioning session at our world - class facility.Sessions will focus on increasing strength endurance, balance, and mobility / flexibility.The 6: 00 am session will take place in the Sand Volleyball Courts at Sports Academy for an added challenge. The 9:00am and 6:00pm session will include a run (2-4 miles) and complete a strength session specific for runners.

6:00am - 7:15am or 9:00am - 10:15am @ Pepper Tree Playfield
6:00pm - 7:15pm @ Newbury Park High School Track

Athletes will be placed in groups based on ability, experience and race goals for an interval workout.Interval training will help improve running efficiency, strength and speed for all race distances.

Saturday @ Various Locations including on the Malibu Half Course
7:00am - 8:30am

Athletes will meet our running coaches at various locations to run on local trails and portions of the Malibu 5 K & Half Marathon Course to get familiar with the terrain for optimum performance on race day.


Jenny Kenyon, Julia Budniak, Cathy Wuesthoff and Additional Trail Runners to monitor the course.


8 Week Program: April 9 – June 3, 2018 (Recommended for 10K & Half Marathoners), $190.00*

4 Week Program: May 7 - June 3, 2018, $100.00*

Course description

Run LA’s most scenic race and join us for the 10th Annual Half Marathon or 5K presented by Rusnak BMW! The half marathon course starts and ends in Zuma Beach, Malibu offering participants a spectacular out and back route along the Pacific Coast Highway. Traveling along the pristine northern Malibu coastline, with rocky bluffs and miles of sandy beaches, runners will likely see dolphins out in the water. Framing the course opposite to the ocean the coastline offers hiking trails that crisscross its hills, rivers and canyons.

This event is a unique opportunity to run up the coast, next to the beach and experience iconic Malibu.

The course is USATF certified and every participants receives our beautiful medal and a tech t-shirt. Most importantly you can help us support the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu. Because we believe every child, regardless of background, deserves a chance to reach their full potential.

Adult Running Club

The Adult Running Club meets weekly to work on speed and endurance in preparation for road races, trail/adventure runs, triathlons, and for general fitness.Runners will work with our skilled running coaches to perfect running form and technique, improve core strengthening, and mobility/flexibility.
