Robert Henry, M.D., M.S., is a physician who specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is Co-Founder and Medical Director of Body Dynamix Integrated Sports Medicine, Inc., and is practicing within Sports Academy to provide medical evaluations, non-surgical treatments, treatment prescriptions, and medical management direction for patients with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. Diagnostic tools available at BDX/Sports Academy include on-site X-ray, diagnostic ultrasound, electromyography, nerve conductions, blood and joint fluid collection for laboratory analysis, and biomechanics testing for kinematic and kinetic analysis. Treatments offered include medication prescription, trigger point injections, ultrasound-guided joint or soft tissue (tendon/ ligament) corticosteroid, viscosupplementation (joint lubrication), and PRP injections. Dr. Henry will work closely with other skilled professionals within the Integrated Sports Medicine facility, including chiropractors, nutritionists, massage therapists, biomechanists, and athletic trainers. These practitioners provide an integrated approach to guide patients from their initial injury/evaluation, through acute treatment, recovery, rehabilitation, and ultimately return them to sport, work, or play. They also provide them with education, strategies, and programs to maximize protection against further injury.
Dr. Henry obtained his Bachelor’s of Science and Master of Science degrees within the Department of Kinesiology at UCLA in 1980 and 1983, respectively. During his graduate studies at UCLA, Dr. Henry taught undergraduate and nursing school courses in Neuromuscular Functional Anatomy, Dissection Anatomy, and Biomechanics; he also developed a private business in exercise consulting in West Los Angeles, serving clients ranging from elite professional athletes to Hollywood personalities and “weekend warriors”. He attended UCLA Medical School, graduating in the top of his class and receiving the Merck Award for Superior Clinical and Academic Performance in 1988. He completed a one-year transitional internship at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and then completed the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program and post-graduate training in Electrodiagnostic Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1992. He received Board Certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1994.
Dr. Henry has been practicing in Southern California since 1992, focusing on evaluation and treatment of disorders of the spine, sports medicine, and occupational medicine. Throughout his career, he has collaborated closely with orthopedic and spine surgeons, anesthesiologist, physiatrists, occupational medicine physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, orthotists, massage therapists, nutritionists, and acupuncturists, within office locations in the Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties.
His vocational passion is to practice medicine within a team of medical and fitness professionals who are dedicated to providing superlative care to persons with musculoskeletal injuries or impairments, with the ultimate goals of helping them to efficiently heal and to achieve their highest functional and/or athletic expectations. Dr. Henry believes that this can be accomplished by a unified multidisciplinary team of professionals who strive to raise standards, remind each other of their essential purpose, and challenge those around them to become better versions of themselves. He believes that has found such an environment at BDX-Sports Academy!
Dr. Henry loves his family and spending time with his wife and three children. He is passionate about the ocean and has enjoyed surfing since grade school. His favorite recreational times are spent in the water, in the mountains, playing guitar, or watching sports. Dr. Henry believes in paying attention to where he is, whom he is with, while he is there.
