Athletic Training & Manual Therapy

The Sports Academy approach to athletic training and manual therapy addresses the clients impairments as a whole and looks to address the source of your issues and find resolutions.

What is Athletic Training & Manual Therapy?

Manual Therapy

Not all injuries or clients the same, thus having multiple evidence-based techniques and modalities are essential. Our Sports Academy staff provide a variety of expertise and are staying on the edge of sports medicine advancements.

Functional Movement Assessment and Corrective Exercise Strategies

As providers we are striving to find the source of the pain and dysfunction. This systematic approach to determine if there is a mobility/flexibility impairment vs. stability/strength impairment is key to managing and preventing further injury. Once a priority list is created, then a progressive corrective exercise strategy is put in place to address the dysfunctional movement patterns.

Recovery Suite and Massage Therapy

No matter who the client is and what the training volume is…it is essential to spend time in the recover and regeneration realm. Recovery can be multifaceted and based upon individual needs. Active Techniques and Passive Modalities are available here at Sports Academy. Our Recovery Suite and Massage Therapy Team specialize in a variety of modalities.

Our Athletic Training & Manual Therapy Services Include…

Dry Needling

Integrative Dry Needling [IDN] is the use of a fine filament needle into a specific tissue with the goals to reduce tissue tension, aide in pain and swelling reduction, minimize trigger points, tissue recovery and even activate muscles dependent on the method used. Our IDN is administered by Jill Wosmek who holds a certification through the Structure and Function Dry Needling curriculum.

Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization

Stimulates connective tissue remodeling through resorption of excessive fibrosis, and induces repair and regeneration of collagen secondary to fibroblast recruitment. This will lead to the breakdown, or release of scar tissue, fascial restrictions and adhesions.

Therapeutic Cupping

Therapeutic Cupping has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2000 years with the primary purpose of allowing a decompressive relief to the tissue and promoting blood flow. There are a few different methods of cupping and types of cups used dependent on the treatment goals. Within Western Medicine we have taken these philosophies and applied it within sports medicine with great success!

The application is brief and intermittent and is based on a specific protocol to help increase strength and hypertrophy utilizing a low mechanical load.

Kinesiotaping and Support Taping

Provides afferent mechanoreceptor stimulus to the brain, and the brain will perceive stability. Helps decrease pain, improve circulation, and to facilitate muscle function.

Active Release Technique®

Mobilizations & Chiropractic Adjustments
