Troy Magorien

Troy helps assist the 14s & 16s boys team at Sports Academy while also working with other athletes. Coach Magorien lives life similarly to what he expects from his athletes- to always have a positive growth mindset in all aspects of life whether that be learning, working, or striving for success. He believes our athletes should always compete with a purpose and strive for excellence on and off the court.

Coach Troy has been a part of a variety of high-level teams in his coaching career. His first club volleyball stint was with 949 Athletics where he garnered a bronze medal at Junior Nationals in Orlando for the 16U Open Division in 2022 as an assistant coach. The next year he would lead a 949 14U team to a silver medal at Junior Nationals in the Club Division as a head coach. Coach Magorien has also coached at the collegiate level as an assistant coach with the women’s team at Irvine Valley College and would win the Orange Empire Conference in 2022. Recently, Troy assisted the Division 1 women’s volleyball team at Cal State Northridge.

Troy grew up in Agoura Hills, California, and competed at the Division 1 level at Pepperdine University and would later graduate from Concordia University Irvine. He has grown up in a volleyball family with his three older brothers playing collegiate volleyball. His father has over 30 years of coaching experience as well, while achieving multiple CIF banners. His brother Travis is currently the assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team at West Virginia University. Troy loves playing beach volleyball with friends and enjoys spending time with his family. He enjoys Star Wars, Anime, and watching a variety of professional sports.
