Biomechanics Lab

"I really liked the testing as it will help me run and jump better"

- Armand B, 16

"As a sport scientist and parent, the information was invaluable. The goal is to perform better and stay healthy, and this session will help my son do both! Dr. Lawrence and Jill Wosmek were very knowledgeable, patient, and practical. I would highly recommend this testing for athletes wanting to maximize their potential."

- Ashley Benjamin, MD, MA, Exercise Science

Sports Academy houses a fully functional Biomechanics Lab for broad-based multiple athlete testing—all the way down to single joint testing and analysis. Our lab offers a 8-camera markerless motion capture analysis integrated with force plate and electromyography data. Our state-of-the-art system is capable of a variety of testing, from an extremely accurate general performance test, a very specific performance test, a full-fledged movement analysis, or a diagnostic test for injury.

Lab Technology

Force Plates

We offer dual in-ground force plates to provide real-time measures of the amount of force generated by the client while doing things like balancing, running, and jumping.

Electromyography (EMG)

Our wireless EMG system provides real-time measures of the activity in up to 16 muscles. This information is used to understand muscle function and coordination during movements in healthy and injured clients.

High Speed Motion Capture

Our lab features 8 high speed motion capture cameras capable of 2D or 3D markerless recording of joint angles and velocities during movement tasks. We use that information to make performance recommendations and prevent injury.

Wireless accelerometers are wearable sensors that provide information about how the client is moving either in or out of the lab setting.

Services Offered

To book a Biomechanics Lab test, call (844) 472-1476.

Reaction Time Testing
(30 minute test, $50)

  • We break down reaction time into neural (perception) and motor (movement) components to understand how clients react to an increasing number of stimuli and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Technology Used: force plates, timing lights.

Balance Assessment
(30 minute test, $50)

  • We assess the client’s balance and postural control and their dependence on vision and proprioception then provide corrective exercise recommendations.
  • Technology Used: high speed motion capture, force plates, accelerometry.

2D Jumping Evaluation
(30 minute test, $50)

  • This evaluation is intended for individuals who participate in sports that require jumping. We are able to provide recommendations for performance improvements and injury risk.
  • Technology Used: high speed motion capture, force plates.
