By Hunter Swanson | Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Nutritionist Julia Budniak has brought a wonderful meal to celebrate Mother’s Day with: French Toast Casserole with Salted Frosted Falkes!

Mother’s Day should be very special and to set the mood for the day, start with breakfast in bed! This is the time for something delicious, comforting and out of your usual breakfast routine! Start the preparations the night before (soak the bread for 6-12 hrs) and try the famous Chrissy Teigen’s French Toast Casserole with Salted Frosted Falkes.

  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 lb french bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2c heavy cream
  • 1c whole milk
  • 0.5c rum
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt

  • 3 cups frosted flakes cereal
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt

  • Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish (or a tall-sided 12-inch ovenproof skillet) and arrange the cubed bread in the dish.
  • In a big bowl, whisk the eggs to combine, then whisk in the heavy cream, milk, rum, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth. Pour the mixture over the bread, pressing on the bread to help the custard soak in. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours and up to 12.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Take the casserole out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Make the topping: In a bowl, combine the cereal, melted butter, and salt and toss to coat. Spread the mixture evenly over the casserole.
  • Bake until the topping is golden and the bread cubes peeking out of the top are crusty and toasty, 50 to 55 minutes.
